Planet Protectors is in its 4th year and growing! Each summer, this unique learning experience is created to investigate a science topic that is of significance to our planet, while at the same time helping children with dyslexia excel. This unique program will take place at
The Laurel School of Princeton
75 Mapleton Road
Princeton, NJ 08540.
Our campus offers a wonderful environment that allows our students fields for play and study. We have a fully equipped science and technology lab where campers will carry out a variety of experiments.
The four-week program is not only for Laurel Students – students from surrounding public, private and charter schools are welcome to experience and benefit from our approach to teaching dyslexic individuals. It is structured to reinforce critical skills in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics while at the same time enriching the knowledge of our students in the sciences.
Planet Protectors, designed for students in grades 1-8 will take place July 5 to July 29. Half and full days are offered, with all campers receiving Orton-Gillingham based instruction every morning. Students staying the full day may partake in technology, art, and Design Thinking classes in the afternoons.
Each day Planet Protectors begins with an hour of hands on-Inquiry based science lesson taught by Dr. McKay, our science expert. Children then have one-hour classes in Orton-Gillingham® and Wilson Reading® to increase reading and spelling skills.
An additional one hour of reading comprehension and writing class follows that will address the science theme for the summer, using multisensory techniques, and evidence-based methods. Students will then enjoy a one-hour mathematics class that will enable them to practice critical math skills and addresses their individual math needs in order to keep their skills sharp over the summer.
The Laurel School’s teachers and staff are expertly trained and certified in Orton-Gillingham and the Wilson Reading methodologies. Our teachers are also highly qualified and expertly trained in math, science and other subject areas.
