Laurel School February 2020 Calendar

February 17 – SCHOOL CLOSED – Presidents’ Day

February 28 – End of 2nd Trimester

Dear Laurel School Families,

Happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you are all feeling some love today; our students have been sharing it all week long! Today, Lower School students exchanged Valentine’s Day cards and had Valentine’s themed treats. The students wrote Valentine’s wishes to share, bagged cookies, and created a homemade gift for our neighbors, the residents of the Atrium Senior Living Home.

Our students bought snacks to support the Animal Advocacy Club and they made fleece animal blankets with the money raised, to show concern and love for animals in local shelters. Our students are invested in showing care and concern for others, and it is so inspirational to watch them in action!

Actually, selling snacks has been so successful, that we have decided to call it Snacks for Service, because some of the funds were used to create the homemade gifts for the Atrium residents. Snack Sales have been a wonderful opportunity for our students to practice math skills, collaborate with each other, and use appropriate social skills as they sell the snacks, count the profits and interact with those making purchases. A win for everyone!

Ms. Nancy’s fourth/fifth grade class very graciously presented their detailed and well organized research projects to the other Lower School classes. I was impressed both with their knowledge about the various Australian animals they studied, and how eagerly they shared their information with students in Ms. Sharon’s and Ms. Maureen’s class.

I hope you enjoy the extended Presidents’ Day weekend, celebrating our National Holiday,  whether you spend it shopping, skiing, watching movies, or just enjoying a rest and family time.
